Industrial M&E Maintenance Engineer

Location: London
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Maintenance Engineer to join our team at a large-scale industrial energy centre in London. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs across a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems.


This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong technical background in pumps, boilers, district heating and cooling networks, and associated plant and control systems, who thrives in a fast-paced, industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities


  • Undertake scheduled PPM tasks and ensure all maintenance activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults across site plant and systems.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimise operation of:
    • Industrial boilers and pumps
    • District heating and cooling networks
    • Heat exchangers, valves, pipework, and pressurisation units
    • Control panels and instrumentation
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime and maintain plant reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards, permit-to-work systems, and risk assessments.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and update asset management systems.
  • Work collaboratively with site operations and technical teams to support system improvements and plant upgrades.


Requirements


Essential:

  • Recognised qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in an industrial, energy centre, or building services environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical plant including pumps, motors, boilers, valves, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Good understanding of district energy systems (heating and cooling).
  • Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Strong focus on safety, reliability, and quality of work.

Desirable:

  • 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations.
  • Experience with BMS / SCADA systems.
  • Confined Space and/or Water Hygiene training.
  • Boiler operations or plant room experience (BOAS, Steam or CHP knowledge advantageous).
